Have you ever been accused of Bibliolatry (holding the Bible up as an idol)?
Some may try to dissuade you from your argument against them by bringing this accusation against you. I have never seen it to be true. You would have to hold the Bible above God, for it to be an idol. Christians hold the Bible as their ultimate truth because it is the very word of God (2 Peter 1:21, (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is at the top of our epistemological chain. Not holding it there would be to deny Christ, for they are His words.
To truly hold the Bible above God, one would need to have received new revelation from God that contradicts His written word. It would be self-refuting. Any new revelation from God, prior to His return, is also self-refuting as he says the canon is closed.
It is sad that even fellow Christians have accused others of this false idea. It means that they are not truly holding to God’s word, but instead view it as equal with other man-made works.
The devil, in his rebellion against God, seeks to suppress the truth (Romans 1:18) through this appeal to our conscience. He is known as the accuser, but brings false accusations against God’s people (Revelation 12:9-10).
